Brand story
Something felt worth leaving behind.
In 2017 I saw a shelter post about a Shiba available for adoption. Open adoption day fell right after my birthday, so I took a day off work and went to look.
A couple of other groups were already checking the dog in the kennel. I figured if I didn't get drawn, I'd wait for the next one — but after learning about the health issues, the others gave up their spots.
So without any lottery at all, I brought my Shiba home. After some simple care, one day I came back from work, opened the door, and saw the scene in the background photo — looks like the health issues weren't that serious after all.
Fast-forward to 2026. Fourteen years as a software engineer, the AI wave hit, and my Shiba was 9+N years old. I decided to leave the comfort zone, build my own products, and spend more time at home with my dog.
As an engineer, the hardest part is always naming things. While I was stuck on a name, my Shiba kept coming over to lean on me. Fine — the brand would be Inutrail.
Inu means dog. Trail means the path you've walked, the footprints left behind. One Shiba walked with me through nine years of working life — and will walk with me through building this company next.
You'll see photos of my Shiba on the site and in the products. Inutrail is a memorial to the road we've walked together.
